About the Outing: A Note from Susan

Bill Fleck Memorial Golf Outing 2013

Each year over 210,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumor - that’s over 575 people every day.

Because brain tumors are located at the control center for thought, emotion, and movement, their effects on an individual’s physical, mental and cognitive abilities can be devastating.

Research is critical to support the vast needs of the brain tumor community, but remains under funded.

Each year, since 1998, The Race for Hope - DC has been supporting brain tumor research. The Race is one of Washington, DC’s most successful volunteer events, raising over $17 million in 15 years, and it is one of the country’s largest fundraisers for the brain tumor community. The Race is organized by volunteers and benefits two not-for-profit organizations, National Brain Tumor Society and Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure.

The race has become a yearly event for my children and me to participate since I lost my husband, and their father, to brain cancer three years ago. The race gives us the opportunity to remember him while helping others.

I am now asking for your help as well. In memory of my husband, Bill Fleck, we are hosting a golf outing/dinner to raise money that will go to the Race for Hope. In addition to the outing and dinner, we are also going to be doing a Chinese Auction, etc. Any donation, money or prize that you could contribute to the outing is very much appreciated. We held our first outing in 2011 and raised over $7000 towards the fight against brain tumors and we would love to do even better this time around.

If you would like more information, please contact me. I'd be happy to get any information you'd like.

Thank you for supporting the fight against brain tumors!

Regards,

Susan L. Fleck

About the Golf Outing: A Note from Susan

About the Race for Hope—DC
A 5K course in the nation's capital, the Race for Hope - DC is open to everyone, and is a fun and inspiring way to join forces in the fight against brain tumors. It is one of the largest national fundraisers to benefit the brain tumor community. The Race funds research and support services for those affected by this disease. Proceeds benefit National Brain Tumor Society and
Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure. Through generous gifts from individuals and company sponsorships, the Race for Hope - DC has raised more than $13 million in its history.

About the National Brain Tumor Society
National Brain Tumor Society is a nonprofit organization inspiring hope and providing leadership within the brain tumor community. We exist to find a cure and improve the quality of life for those affected by brain tumors. We fund strategic research, deliver support services, and promote collaboration

About Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure
We understand that brain tumor and cancer patients are in desperate need of new, effective treatments.  To advance the most promising leads we partner with top notch researchers to bring new treatments to patients as quickly as possible.  In total, Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure has awarded over $15 million to fund brain tumor and brain cancer research. Our research projects are quite diverse: ranging from creating targeted therapeutics to improving drug delivery to developing new preclinical screening mouse models to honing diagnostic biomarkers. A common characteristic of these projects is that most would not have moved forward without our funding. We invest in each stage of the therapeutic development pipeline. Our Pre-Clinical Screening Program breaks down barriers to entry, our research grants focus on novel therapies, and our
investments with companies allow us to bring the most promising treatments to patients quickly.

About Us
My children and I unfortunately lost my husband and their father to brain cancer in 2009.  Bill was an inspiring person who would help out anyone given the opportunity.  While we miss him, his death has opened a door and an opportunity for us to help others.  We participate in the Race for Hope each year in DC.  All profits generated by this outing will go to benefiting these worthwhile causes as well as potentially helping someone locally inflicted with a brain tumor or brain cancer.  Thank you for your generosity.
